Joseph Beuys: Multiples From the Reinhard Schlegel Collection

The artist most celebrated for his contributions to the genre of artists' multiples (and certainly one of the most prolific), Joseph Beuys once remarked: “If you have all my multiples, then you have me completely.”

Joseph Beuys: Multiples From the Reinhard Schlegel Collection opened yesterday at Mitchell-Innes & Nash at their West 26th Street location in New York City. Consisting of over 500 works, it is the largest collection of Beuys' multiples presented in the city. The show continues until April 18th.

The works span from the early sixties to the artist's death in 1986 and include iconic pieces such as Sled and Felt Suit. It is curated by Beuys scholar Eugen Blume, who will also contribute an essay to the forthcoming catalogue.
